Well, not sure about the actual surgery part as I was out during that, but afterwards, it hurts.

AMA I’ve got some time to kill.

Why did you require surgery?

Kinja'd!!!0

what form of surgery did you have?

I do not recall the hurting. I recall the sickness from the plethora of painkillers they were generously supplying.

Ingiunal hernia. I went in the hospital at 7:30 and left again at 16:30. Now at home trying to get confortable. They are quite a bit more reserved with painkillers over here

Difference between a mechanic and a heart surgeon, the heart surgeon takes apart and puts back together the engine while it’s running

Inguinal hernia.

I know it’s been asked, but what kind of surgery?

I’ve gone under the knife quite a few times (8 or 9), with some being pretty “painful” surgeries. Open heart a few times, which is supposed to be really painful after. From my memory it really wasn’t too bad, but I think I tend to have a high pain tolerance than most people.

The time around the surgery to fix my broken femur was the most awful pain of my life, but that likely has more to do with the actual broken femur itself. haha

Yikes. I’m not jealous there.

It was an inguinal hernia that they did an open procedure on. The painmeds I’ve got are paracetamol, ibuprofen and 2 days worth of 5mg oxycodone.

It’s not agonising, just every way I sit/lay is uncomfortable and moving and changing positions hurts quite a bit.

I was given the GOOOOOOD stuff. like, a guy at work told me he knew a guy who could get me $80 a pill if I have any leftovers. they were FAN-TASTIC! doc gave me a scrip for 2 refills. I never used even half the first bottle. was nuts.

Yes, yes it does. In the past 7 years I’ve had 3 surgeries, putting me a recoup mode for a month at a time. The pain is barely bearable, but the lost wages I truly hated. I might need to go in for a fourth time....I just don’t want to. -_-

Damn, the oxycodone is fun for 15 minutes but it’s not a high enough dose to float away on so to speak. The first rush does remind me of my youger party days though :p

Damn.. This is my first and hopefully last one for a loooong time. I have the benefit of living in a civilised country that has universal health care and a set contract at work so I get the 4-6 weeks I need to recover off from work with pay.

Suck to hear about your situation though :( What did you have/need surgery on?

Ah, that’s no bueno.

Eat the tastiest food you can, watch some good tv, read a book, play video games, or whatever else would bring you a bit of joy. That tends to help.

Had a cataract done a year ago ... and yes, they said I was very young for one - I thought that was all 80 year olds in Boca Raton called Izzy. They told me the anesthesia would be the same used on Michael Jackson, and that didn’t fill me with confidence. No serious pain, but I felt like a vampire when it was over - I could not be outside for a couple days.

I’ll take surgical pain any day over the nausea I get from anesthesia. There is no stopping the three days of vomiting that follow.

Hope you heal up quick and get babied plenty in the meantime.

Ha, it’s a but embarrassing to admit, but since it’s the Internet and only 4 people have met me in RL here, what the heck! All three surgeries were for a pilonidal cysts. Trust me when I say don’t look it up, it’s a cyst on your rear-end.

I first discovered it nearly 7 years ago. I had to drop out of college and move 1.2k miles to live with my parents in FL to recoup. It kept coming back so I ended up having 3 identical surgeries in 4 years. It was a...dark time for me. Also found out I had hirschsprung’s disease since birth but was constantly misdiagnosed, :/, so...that was cool.... -_-.

Any surgery without long lasting effects are good, I'm still haunted by body pains all around, lol. Hopefully yours aren’t, :D.

Kinja'd!!!1

Damn.. I’m aware of those existing.

That sucks that it has affected your life so much :S All I can say that I hope it has less influence on you in the future and hopefully the diagnosis helps with either fighting the other disease or in the very least gives a little bit of closure as it now has a name.

Il be fine and if things go well, all I have left is a scar and a story.

I feel you. Not to be the one-upper, but the worst for me was the unbearable recovery pain from butt surgery (google “anal fistula,” [NSFW] it happens to men and women) AND days of vomiting from the anesthesia... You know how your whole body clenches up when you puke? So does your sphincter which has three rubber band sutures in it. Morphine is nuts, only thing that calmed it all down.

I don’t ever want to go under again. If at all possible. I want any and all surgeries I end up getting to be done while I’m awake. I don’t care how bad it hurts, anesthesia fucks with you big time.

Oh yeah feel better too and stuff racecars. What 3 wheeled vehicle would you daily drive?

Ha, I guess you can say I’ve become accustomed to ongoing body pains, I messed up my shoulder from a bmx bike accident when I was 16, lol. My body is just screwed up, :). I’ve adapted to it though.

Actually, hirschsprung’s doesn’t have anything to do with cysts, it’s where the nerves of your colon never formed. Like a said, my body is screwed up, but it’s the only one I have. So I guess I’ll keep it, lol. :)

That sounds awful. I don’t understand why they can’t figure out how to stop the whole nausea/anesthesia problem. It didn’t matter what they gave me.

(And I’m better, that was awhile ago, but my fingers are crossed that I don’t break anything else).

And a 3-wheel Isetta.

Kinja'd!!! Roadster Man > smobgirl

Kinja'd!!!0

Hahaha, I’d take a Morgan three wheeler of course!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. No matter how shitty life gets, if you have your health then you have nothing to complain about. Most of us learn that lesson the hard way.

My theory is that it’s because anesthesia is forcing your body to do exactly what it doesn’t want to do. You want to stay awake, and you especially want to wake up when someone slices you open and pokes around a bit... But a chemical is telling you to sleep. My hunch is that your body wants to fight whatever is forcing it to stay asleep.

It mystifies me how some people are totally fine with it and snap out of anesthesia like nothing, while people like me are severely affected by anesthesia and are “literally at the end of the bell curve” as my doctor said.

....And that there is your lawyer’s horribly misinformed perspective on how medicine works.

I do. Mostly just hurts when changing from laying to sitting, sitting to standing etc. And i usually sleep on my side, so that takes some getting used to. And I don’t know how advanced your hernia was but everything having some space again down below is an odd sensation.
